SUSTAINABILITY — Our environmental commitment

Less paper, lighter desks.
That is how we approach the environment.

Asahi Law Office reduces its environmental footprint steadily by rethinking the everyday processes of legal practice.
Rather than major capital investment, we start by changing the way we work.

01 — Paperless

A thoroughly paperless office

From issuing invoices to filings with courts and government agencies and sharing documents with clients, we are moving to workflows that do not depend on paper.

Electronic invoicing

Invoices are shared with clients as PDF files rather than paper, saving the paper and energy used in printing and postage.

Electronic filing with courts and agencies

Wherever courts, the Legal Affairs Bureau and government agencies accept electronic filing, we use it, reducing paper petitions and applications.

Document sharing with clients

We share documents with clients by e-mail or online drive wherever possible, so that our work does not rely on handing over paper.

02 — Cloud PBX

Replacing fixed-line telephony with a cloud PBX

A conventional office telephone system depends on dedicated hardware: a PBX unit, desk telephones and complex cabling. We have retired all of it in favour of a cloud PBX that runs entirely on smartphones and PCs, moving to an IT platform with a lighter environmental footprint.

  • PBX unit and desk telephones→Smartphone and PC apps
  • Dedicated equipment powered 24 hours a day→Processing consolidated in the cloud
  • Paper telephone message slips→Centralised call logs and recordings
01

Less physical hardware

With no PBX, dedicated handsets or cabling, we reduce the CO2 emitted in manufacturing, transporting and disposing of equipment, and the e-waste generated in future.

02

Lower office power consumption

Removing on-premises equipment that must be powered around the clock cuts the office's baseline electricity use, and consolidating processing in the cloud improves overall energy efficiency.

03

Less paper, less effort

Call histories, recordings and customer information are managed and shared in a single console, eliminating paper message slips and the printing that went with them.

Small changes, made consistently, shape the kind of firm we are.

Asahi Law Office will continue, one step at a time, to pursue initiatives that combine efficiency
with a lighter environmental footprint.
